Friendly and professional. Dr. Mandel was very thorough in explaining exactly what he was going to do during the examination. That put me at ease.

I thought I would live the rest of my life with my issues, but Dr Mandel made sure that didn't happen. I feel so much better and my quality of life is back to 100% Thanks Dr. Mandel. You're a great doctor and a great guy.

I appreciate all my interactions with Dr Mandel. He fully explained everything I needed to know in a very concise manner, and this put me at ease. The surgery went well, and my recovery was as he described. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Mandel came as a referral from another physician in the area. Upon first encounter in July 2025, as a 31 year veteran educator working with special needs students my entire career, my first impression of Dr. Mandel was “rain man.” I thought “good for him for beating all the odds and exceeding in life despite his disability” and I was willing to give him a chance to treat me. He quickly diagnosed me with a spigelian hernia and told me that I needed emergency surgery the very next day. I reported to surgery hoping that my doctor would be able to fix the excruciating pain that I have been experiencing. When I woke up from surgery, I was dismayed to find out that Dr. Mandel decided to remove a lipoma rather than actually fix the underlying issue of the hernia. He NEVER came to see me in recovery and discharged me with written instructions that I could return to work when I felt able. Over the weekend, I developed an infection on the incision site. I looked up after care hoping for guidance on how to treat the bacteria infection on the surgery site. Instead, the doctor on call refused to help and insisted that if I needed assistance, go to the ER!! Going to the ER is expensive so I suffered in pain until Monday morning when I called his office and received the exact same advice. Is this the United States or a third world country? I opted to contact my regular physician who IMMEDIATELY called in an antibiotic to help with the infection. I returned to work 3 days later and wound up doubled over in pain with an acute severe attack of my upper right quadrant of my abdomen. I contacted Dr. Mandel’s office again and they told me that I needed to wait to address these issues at my post-op appointment. On my follow up appointment on August 17th, Dr. Mandel recommended that I see Dr. Kendiah, gastrointologist, for an upper GI for further investigation. After receiving the results from that test, I FINALLY was granted an appointment with Dr. Mandel to go over the results on NOVEMBER 20th! Let me reinforce the fact that I have been suffering with an incarcerated hiatal hernia since the beginning of JULY!!! I drove 90 minutes to see “The Good Doctor” to sit in the waiting room for an additional 60 minutes for a 5 minute appointment with him to tell me that I was too fat to have hiatal hernia surgery and to offer me a sales pitch for bariatric surgery! This man led me on for 5 MONTHS while I’m doubled over in pain, making me think that he would be able to help me, never once mentioning that getting the help that I needed would depend on a particular BMI number. Why would someone do that? My only thought would be because I have good insurance. Thank GOD there are incredible facilities such as MUSC and the Mayo Clinic! I would NEVER trust my life or my health with “Rain Man Dr. Mandel.” This sheer example is what is wrong with our education system. Here we have a high functioning autistic person who will never possess the appropriate skills such as empathy and compassion to care for people who need a “Good Doctor.”
