Clínica Dr. Richard Fakin

I had Vaginoplasty with Dr Richard Fakin in February 2026, 8 days after my 60th birthday. Prior to the surgery I had three free consultations, two online and one in person where I also chatted to Ainhoa, Richard’s nurse specialist. When I arrived in Spain for the surgery, Ainhoa explained everything to me and after pre op checks at Vithas Hospital Aravaca I was admitted the next day. My surgery went very well and I was kept in bed for 5 1/2 days, with some swelling but no bruising. I was treated like a princess, the hospital is in an exclusive part of Madrid and I was extremely well cared for, I have no complaints at all, everyone was lovely. I saw Richard before surgery but not Ainhoa, which would have been nice and the anaesthetic was like an off switch, I struggled with my feelings about that for a couple of days post op. These were the only operation day niggles that I had and might be due to circumstances that I don’t know about. Dr Fakin told me that once discharged I would be walking to the clinic to see Ainhoa every other day for dressing changes, I really doubted this as no one in the UK had said that this would happen. In fact, I walked back to my apartment after my first dressing change, about 800m, with no problem. I continued to see Ainhoa for dressing changes and suture removal over the next ten days and saw Dr Fakin twice for internal examinations. Apart from a little bit of wound separation that just required iodine application, I have had no post op complications at 3 1/2 weeks. Aesthetically, it still looks a bit surgical due to the fact it is, but I really like what I see and can’t wait for the months to tick away and the final result is revealed. Dilation? This has been uneventful; sure, it’s not comfortable, but it’s not painful and Richard/Ainhoa’s protocol is 30 minutes twice a day, leaving more time for other things during the day: I mov up to the second size next week, a month post op. I don’t douche, the protocol is iodine solution and saline irrigation, it goes all over the bath but I’ve had no smells or infections. I am far more recovered and capable than I thought I would be and have to make sure that I lie down enough to avoid swelling. I’m amazed. I chose Dr Fakin because I was impressed from my first contact with Ruben, the clinic admin manager, price came into it and it’s competitive because hospital care in Spain is lower than in the UK or Switzerland where Richard also works. But the quality of clinical and emotional care is far better than I found in the UK when researching surgeons. My more complex medical history was thoroughly checked and taken into account, especially as, as an amputee, I was anxious about walking post surgery I have been a nurse, radiographer and medical science lecturer, I know what good healthcare looks like and this was probably the best that I have ever experienced. I’m getting nothing from this, it is honestly the experience that I had and that’s why this is long. If I decide to have further surgery, I will be going back to Dr Fakin, Ainhoa and Ruben, no question. Jane.

It is rare to find a medical team so deeply committed to both clinical excellence and patient care. I am incredibly grateful and would recommend them without hesitation.

My experience at the Ocean Clinic was perfect, my appointments and surgery went very smoothly. Dr. Fakin and Silvia were fantastic, really down to earth and informative about the procedure and post op instructions. There are no top surgeons in Ireland so I spent a few years researching surgeons throughout Europe before choosing Dr. Fakin. I'm glad that I did choose him in the end because my results are amazing, my scars are very thin and neat and the shape of my chest is perfect!
